From the Desk of a Nursing Home Injury Attorney in Cleveland: A Recent Case of Nursing Home Abuse in Queens, NY
Posted on July 20th, 2015 No commentsLike in any form of advertising, there’s always a difference between projected image and reality. The website of Peninsula Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 200-bed facility in Queens, NY, claims to have “world-class care” that is “redefining the rehabilitation experience.”
A security camera showed a very different reality: a nursing home worker dragging a disabled resident across the floor and leaving him to bleed from a head wound for more than 20 minutes, according to the New York Daily News. The 51 year old patient suffered from physical and mental disabilities. He lay bleeding on the ground, writhing on the floor, while caregivers continued to work just a few feet away. The man was then reportedly grabbed by nursing aide Emmanuael Ufot and dragged back to his room. The resident suffered injuries to his head and neck that required emergency room hospital treatment.
It’s a tragic scene that a nursing home injury attorney in Cleveland sees all too often. Fortunately, this time the perpetuators were brought to the light of justice. Nurses Funmilol Taiwo, Eshe Agbonkpolor and aide Ufot face felony charges of endangering the welfare of a physically disabled person and willful violation of health laws. All three were fired or resigned from their positions. Each has pleaded not guilty.
“My office will not tolerate nurses who callously fail to treat or endanger injured patients under their care,” state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, whose office investigated the incident, said in a statement. “Caregivers must know that we will vigorously prosecute behavior that endangers our most vulnerable citizen.”
Justice must be delivered to hold nursing homes accountable. If you believe your loved one has been the victim of abuse, contact a Linton Law Firm nursing home injury attorney in Cleveland for a free consultation. We’ll fight to protect the rights and safety of your family.
