Good News for ClevelandBrain Injury Lawyers: A Newly Developed Material Can Show Early Indications of Potential Brain Injury to Expedite Treatment
Posted on September 17th, 2015 No commentsEvery once in a while a news item comes across the desk of a brain injury lawyer in Cleveland that gives hope to the future prevention of head trauma. A team of researchers from theUniversity ofPennsylvania has developed a material that changes different colors depending on how hard it is hit. They hope to use the material in protective headgear to provide athletes and soldiers with a better indication of when an impact could cause more serious damage that could result in brain injury.
When brain injuries occur, they can be difficult to immediately identify. Victims might think they feel fine and continue to go about normal activity, making the injury worse by forgoing urgent medical attention. This new material could change that.
“If the force was large enough, and you could easily tell that, then you could immediately seek medical attention,” study co-author and postdoctoral researcher Shu Yang told Medical News Today.
The material uses a process called “holographic lithography” to develop crystals that have specific colors. When force is applied, the internal structures are altered and their color is changed. The material requires no power source and is light weight. Manufacturing costs are currently high, so don’t expect mass production anytime soon. But if the technology can become more affordable and available, there would certainly be fewer cases that will require litigation from a brain injury lawyer in Cleveland.
